Established in 1992, it was previously called Prva Hrvatska nogometna liga (1. HNL; lit. 'First Croatian Football League'), but a league structure reorganization from 2022–23 led to name changes for the three top league levels.
The Croatia HNL (Hrvatska Nogometna Liga), officially known as the Croatian First Football League, is the premier professional football competition in Croatia.
